I present interactive seminars to secondary and tertiary students on the topic of respectful dating.

Sometimes, interactions when dating are respectful, consensual and enjoyable, but sadly, this isn’t always the case.

The reason I'm passionate about this topic is because I've had dating experiences that weren’t respectful or consensual. I've also had degrading experiences with online dating. Most interactions have been fine, but there are people out there who have no idea how to interact in a respectful manner.

So, I've dedicated my life to sharing information and strategies to help young people navigate their way through the world of dating in a safer and more respectful manner.

In the seminar I discus……

*The story of what happened to me when she was 17 and how this affected me

*How and where to get help

*The law in regard to consent

*Appropriate conduct when dating

*Techniques to get you out of a situation

*Tips to help navigate online dating and minimise the exposure to degrading behaviour

*The dangers and laws around sexting

*Contraception

*Warning signs that may lead to domestic violence

*Simple techniques to improve self respect

*I also include a short video on consent

I encourage interaction with the students

The seminar runs for an hour and it’s appropriate for all year levels, especially as some people start dating in year 7

This is vital information for students in years 10, 11, 12 and above

My life would have been very different if I had’ve known this information when I was a teenager

My intention is to empower young people with this information and these techniques so they don’t have to go through what I and so many others have experienced and if they already have, to know that they’re not alone, that it’s not their fault and there is help and support.

Testimonial - Kinder Incursion

Chrissy Kenny, a parent and an Early Childhood Educator has shown her passion in the topic of her interest regarding the importance of respect for us, ourselves, others, the environment and all the living creatures.

By sharing her ideas, spark conversations and inspire others, especially the children and colleagues to think differently, leading to positive change in our community and beyond.

Chrissy was very well prepared and organised in terms of getting all her learning resources and learning activities to support her topic of incursion (puppets, letters to the parents, learning outcomes, affirmation, print out activities and colouring in etc...)

Questions and answers techniques really captured children’s thinking, ideas and to interact and respond thoughtfully. Her way of delivering the topic was very interesting where children with even short concentration spans really stayed focused and everyone was fully participating so well for a full 45 minutes.

The children watched the puppets shows as she demonstrated a couple of scenarios, and they were very competent and persevere in responding to questions too. The incursion was delivered in a very thoughtful manner and in a tone of language that was easy for the children to understand and to remember and took part with much concentration.

We thanked Chrissy for her time and effort in doing this incursion. It was a very thoughtful and resourceful one that everyone loved and enjoyed being part of it.

Testimonial - Secondary Seminar

The presentation was strong and the messages were really important.  A clear emphasis on the concept of consent and some simple, practical advice for the students around what to do, where to go to get help etc., but also makes it clear that responsibility ultimately lies with the person who is disregarding the concept/laws around consent.
